First conceived in solid wood this wide tailed shape dominated the beaches of Waikiki as early as 1905. This shape was later translated into the balsa wood and fiberglass surfboards of the post World War period and is still evident in contemporary surfboard design. Dimensions: 10 to 12 feet long x 20 to 24 inches in width x 3.5 to 5 inches thick. Approximate Weight: 43 to 50 lbs. Wide tail area with fairly parallel outline ending in a round nose. Deck area is flat with the bottom shaped to lift both tail and nose into a soft curving sweep. Surface Treatment: Boards are first sealed with a dark tinted commercial oil base primer on top of which the color is applied. Our color palette is hand tinted to impart a variable in color value to each hollow-core. After drying boards are very carefully water sanded to simulate years of wear, highlighting the brass deck screws, wood sub-surface, creating an antique surface of depth and interest. Finally to protect and seal several coats of clear varnish is applied to both top and bottom of every vintage reproduction. Colors: Clear Redwood, Muted Red, Antique Green, Island Blue, Opaque Mahogany and 1930'2 "Hawaiian Surfboard", clear deck/colored combination shown in the upper right photo on the "Champion" Paddleboard page. Custom colors and graphics available. Price: $1195.00.00
